A blinding sheet of white flame sprang up, the bridge cracked , and with a terrible cry! the Balrog plunged down into the chasm.

I find it rather funny that so many people are trying to tell you how you should be drawing the Balrog...for some reason, I thought that people could interpret things the way they wanted. Even if someone imagined the Balrog one way, say with fire and such, it doesn't mean that EVERYONE imagined it that way. I think your picture is beautiful and well done. Nice job!

First of all, wicked perspective. Second, I love the power you can feel in this picture. Also, the light from Gandalf's staff and the quite black shadows create an excellent contrast.

@ abigail, yes there is alway's artist impression, but we (fans of fantasy and tolkien) would like every art about lord of the rings to be in tolkiens vision (or at least reasonably accurate to the books) and the books indeed mention the flame part a lot, so some of us are a bit disapointed about the lack of flame... So there

12 Terry .A. Ernest replies: "Yes ...flames would be good. At one point the flames went out according to the book, but there still would have been loads of smoke...I`ll do another version of it sometime... "

Your Gandalf looks like Santa.

12 Terry .A. Ernest replies: "Yes he does a bit...but then santa comes from old pagan times and may have been a druid..."

It's quite similar to a drawing by Ted Nasmith ( http://www.faszination-tolkien.de/galerie/nasmith/moria-balrog.jpg ). It's a good piece of art, thought I don't like the physical shape of the balrog. I imagine it more like a very dark, smoky shade, nothing you really can touch. Tolkien didn't even wright that it had wings, only that the SHADOW around the balrog began to grow into two wings.

12 Terry .A. Ernest replies: "Only in the fact that it has Gandalf and a balrog and a bridge!.. as Mr Tolkien describes..."

Great work! The bridge makes me feel dizzy. It seems so real, as if I am there.

:-) Terry .A. Ernest replies: "Cheers Kristin.. that`s exactly the affect I was trying to create ...thanks for visiting my gallery...1 "
